Gearing up for charity cycle ride for Maggie’s

Colleagues across the business are preparing for an epic charity cycle ride and 477 miles fundraising challenge for Maggie’s.

As part of our ongoing fundraising efforts for Maggie’s, our 'Heart to Home' charity cycle ride challenges colleagues to cycle 477 miles.

Our lycra-clad heroes from across our UK office and sites are ramping up their training as they prepare for their epic charity ride for Maggie’s in just a few weeks’ time.

Starting on 29th August and finishing on 2nd September, our colleagues will cycle from the heart (Hemel HQ) to our spiritual home (Glasgow) where it all began 150 years ago.

They are hoping to promote the fantastic work of Maggie’s along the way, raising as much funds for the charity as they can

We wish them the very best of luck as they embark on what will be a memorable journey visiting the following cities, towns and project landmarks:

Day 1 – Hemel Hempstead to Milton Keynes, Kettering and finally Leicester

Day 2 – Leicester to Nottingham, Rotherham and finally Leeds

Day 3 – Leeds to Harrogate, Richmond, Durham and finally Chester-le-Street

Day 4Chester-le-Street to Newcastle,  Amble  Bamburgh and finally Berwick-upon-Tweed

Day 5 - Berwick-upon-Tweed to Edinburgh, to Glasgow.

How your support will make a difference to those effected by cancer

Last year, Maggie's had over 281,000 visits to its centre's from people with cancer and their family and friends.

Our Heart to Home ride will help to fund Maggie’s centres’ vital programme of essential drop-in, one-to-one and group support. This funding will help to ensure that they can continue to meet the ever-increasing demand for support at the centres nationwide. Every pound donated and raised will help to make the lives of people and families living with cancer better.

  • £20 can pay for a nutrition class to help a newly diagnosed person with cancer to learn how to choose and prepare food that’s right for them, whatever stage of cancer or treatment they’re at

  • £40 will pay for someone with cancer to get expert benefits advice, helping them focus on their treatment and less on the struggle of supporting their family

  • £50 pays for a family to attend a kids’ day, which helps children to understand and come to terms with mum or dad having cancer

  • £90 will pay for a family that’s struggling to cope with a cancer diagnosis to see a psychologist who can help them to communicate and work through difficult feelings and strain on their relationship

  • £100 means Maggie’s can facilitate a prostate support group so that men with cancer meet others who are going through similar things and find advice

  • £120 pays for a two-hour Managing Stress session for up to 12 people, exploring ways to relax and find calmness when dealing with the challenges of cancer

  • £140 pays for an exercise class for people going through cancer treatment, which will help them to build stamina and confidence

  • £150 pays for a Getting Started session for people who have just been diagnosed, so they can find out everything they need to know about cancer and treatment

Thank you in advance for your support and very best of luck to all the cyclists taking part.
