Sir Robert McAlpine's Chief Executive, Paul Hamer, reacts to the publication of the APPG on diversity and inclusion in STEM's report.
Following this eight-month consultation, the APPG published its report this week.
Paul Hamer, CEO of Sir Robert McAlpine, commented:
"I am delighted that the APPG on Diversity and Inclusion in STEM has published its important report on ‘Equity in the STEM Workforce’ this week. We wholeheartedly support the APPG’s recommendation that the Government takes a multi-pronged approach to drive equity in the STEM workforce, particularly in light of inequalities driven by Covid-19.
“Sir Robert McAlpine is working hard to foster a diverse and inclusive working environment. We fully believe that there are no gender specific roles in construction and to help reflect this, we’ve increased the visibility of female leaders across our business. We’re also proud of the work we do in supporting Black and Minority Ethnic and LGBTQ+ talent into construction orientated roles, in addition to investing in a range of STEM apprenticeship schemes.
“I am especially pleased to see the APPG make reference to Sir Robert McAlpine’s campaign to promote flexible working in its findings and look forward to continuing our work with industry partners and parliamentarians on this topic in the future."
We are proud to sign the Inspiring Women in Construction Pledge and contribute to addressing gender inequality in the industry.
