Strong Foundations Grant recipients in Sunderland

The final of our three Northern based Strong Foundation Grants has been awarded in Sunderland.

We’re thrilled to announce the awardees of our Sunderland Strong Foundations Grant who each receive a share of the £9,000 fund.

They join other organisations in Manchester and Edinburgh and represent a range of grassroot charity and community projects funded via the ActionFunder platform.

Congratulations to the following awardees:

  • Washington Mind delivers mental health and wellbeing support. The funds will go towards the Listening Ear project, offering structured conversations around topics and experience to motivate positive change and encourage recovery.

  • The Connor Brown Trust was setup by the family of Connor Brown after his tragic death in 2019, which was the result of a knife crime. They work with schools, community centres and local youth to educate young people on the impact of knife crime and the consequences of carrying weapons. The funds will support counselling for youth providers across Sunderland, aiming to engage 375 young people across six months.

  • North East Dementia Care is the only day care centre in Sunderland for people with dementia, where they offer support and currently 75 sessions per week. The funds will go towards supporting the design and expansion of the current centre, to increase their capacity and support more people with dementia.

I am proud to have been a part of the Strong Foundations Grant selection group for Sunderland. The projects we have supported will have such a positive impact on the local community and I look forward to seeing their progress in the near future.
