Meet the recipients of our Manchester Strong Foundations Grant

Congratulations to the charity and community projects that have been awarded a share of our Strong Foundations Grant in Manchester.

Last month we launched our Strong Foundations Grant for Manchester, encouraging local charities and community groups to apply for a share of a £9,000 fund via the Action Funder platform.

This is just one of 12 funds we have available across the UK this year. Other locations include: Cambridge, Oxford, London, Hemel Hempstead, Edinburgh, Kettering, Birmingham, Knutsford, Bristol, Nottingham and Sunderland.

Following a six week application window, the shortlisted submissions were judged by a panel of colleagues from projects and offices across our Northern region. We are pleased to announce we will be supporting the following:

Introducing our awardees

  • Mahdlo Youth Zone is the largest provider of youth work in Oldham, delivering both universal and targeted services that support young people to learn, experiment and develop new interests. Funding will pay for two sports workers to facilitate a programme for young people aged 13-18.

  • Cede Foundation - Funds will help provide a safe space for employability skills training at the St Ignatius Centre. Participants will receive accredited qualifications through UAS, helping young people not in education employment or training (NEET) to acquire skills that will support them to become economically active.

  • Stockport & Brinnington ABC is an England Boxing affiliated club. Funding will help deliver additional activities for 6-16 year-olds to help reduce anti-social behaviour in the area. The life skills garnered through dedicating themselves to a sport encourages young people to gain confidence and promotes personal development.

  • Gorton Youth ForumFunding will be used to provide activities and crafts at the Forum's International Youth Day event. Funds will also help to support the creation in Gorton's biggest park, Debdale, a mural that reflects the incredible efforts of young people through the pandemic.

I'm proud of the success of our Strong Foundations Grant and also the amazing progress we continue to make via the Action Funder platform, which allows us to fund grassroots community projects not only in Manchester but across the UK.

Paul Quinn Regional Director, Sir Robert McAlpine
