Springfield University Hospital wins at Design in Mental Health Awards

The accolades continue for the Trinity Building at Springfield University Hospital, London, which won ‘Project of the Year – New Build UK’ at the 2023 Design in Mental Health Conference Awards.

Congratulations to the team at Springfield University Hospital, which won ‘Project of the Year – New Build UK’ at the 2023 Design in Mental Health Conference Awards.

The awards were presented as part of the Design in Mental Health Conference and were judged by a panel of experts with extensive experience within the NHS and Private Mental Health sector.

Our project at Springfield Hospital involved the redevelopment of the existing mental health facilities, providing a Forensic and Non-Forensic unit to the hospital site in South West London.

Our team also worked alongside a consortium to refurbish a Grade II Listed building and construct new residential housing. This combination of works and development has helped transform the site at Springfield into an attractive mixed-use community combining healthcare and residential housing in a parkland setting. Teva Hesse, Lead Designer, C.F. Møller Architects said:

“We worked with Trust clinicians to find ways to allow greater individual empowerment to fill a day with meaningful pursuits, and make a service-user’s stay therapeutic, beneficial and safe.

The next generation of mental health facilities should aim to be comforting and uplifting: places of healing for patients, places of pride for staff, places of reassurance for relatives, friends and carers.”

It’s a pioneering project for the NHS providing much needed high-quality mental health facilities at the heart of a growing residential community. The Trinity Building creates one side of the new public square welcoming staff, service-users and visitors; its location and aspect proudly announces the Trust’s presence, breaking down the stigma surrounding mental health.

The team also received a "Highly Commended" award for Mental Health Design at the European Healthcare Design conference recently.
