GSRM selected as preferred contractor

GSRM has been selected by Ports of Jersey as preferred contractor to undertake the pre-construction services in the £42m scheme to reconfigure Jersey Airport.

GSRM has been selected by Ports of Jersey as the preferred contractor to undertake the preconstruction services in the £42m scheme to reconfigure Jersey Airport. GSRM is a Joint Venture of the Channel Islands-based contractor, Garenne Construction Group, and UK building and civil engineering company, Sir Robert McAlpine.

From previous collaborations delivering projects together on the island, Garenne and Sir Robert McAlpine are fully integrated in their joint venture. They will use their knowledge and experience working in Jersey and in the aviation sector to engage in the final design stage of the scheme, working alongside Ports of Jersey to develop phasing strategies and the programme of work.

The project, which involves both refurbishment and new build, will address key regulatory issues, making sure that the Airport remains compliant in terms of safety and security. It will facilitate business growth, increasing the capacity for both air traffic and the flow of passengers. Improving the journey experience of passengers and allowing Ports of Jersey to develop further commercial opportunities are important objectives for the future Airport.

On behalf of Ports of Jersey, Group Capital Projects Director, Steve Tanner commented:

“Following a comprehensive tender exercise, we are pleased to confirm the appointment of GSRM under a pre-construction services agreement. GSRM blend comprehensive Jersey and UK supply chain experience with strong and relevant aviation expertise. Ports of Jersey is looking forward to working alongside GSRM through the next stages of our Future Airport development project”.

Peter Munn, GSRM Board Director, commented:

“We are thrilled to have secured our place in working with Ports of Jersey on this prestigious and high-profile project. Our island-based team will soon be interfacing with the market to develop proposals and ensure that the we bring the best out of both Jersey and the UK supply chain. We are very excited as an integrated joint venture to use our combined knowledge and experience, both in Jersey and the aviation sector, to work with the client project team in bringing this project to life.”

Earlier this year, the J3 joint venture between Sir Robert McAlpine, Garenne Construction Group, and FES Group secured a pre-construction role for the project to develop Jersey’s new hospital, which will provide further opportunities on the island for the future.

Work is currently expected to start on schedule before the end of the year, and last until 2021.
