Celebrating International Men's Day with Leonard Meehan

Today on International Men’s Day we talk to Leonard Meehan. Here he tells us more about his role as Senior Design Manager and managing work life balance as he believes, like us, family life and flexible working is important.

Today on International Men’s Day we talk to Leonard Meehan. He joined the company back in March as a Senior Design Manager and lives in South London with his wife and two young children. He tells us about his career highlights and managing work life balance as he believes, like us, family life and flexible working is important.

An architect by trade, his career over the years has seen him work on many prestigious projects, across a number of sectors, including: a residential, commercial, education and work place schemes and mixed-use development in Battersea Park comprising of 45 high end units for which he acted as the lead Design Manager.

His role as a Senior Design Manager at Sir Robert McAlpine involves managing and coordinating the design elements and interfaces of all related aspects of the project whilst ensuring the integrity of the design quality is maintained throughout the delivery of the project.

Leonard is currently leading the Design management team for the Morello II residential & mixed use scheme in East Croydon due to start on site in spring next year.

As a working dad, family life is important to Leonard as it is to us. As an employer, we take the balance between personal and professional lives very seriously. His work takes him to Woking most days and to the city to meet with architects working on his projects so collecting his children from school and the childminder forms part of his daily duties.

Leonard said:

“It is in most cases, the father is seen as secondary in the childcare role to the mother but as we know, this is no longer the case and has not been for some time now.

It makes such a difference to me and my wife, who also has a full-time demanding job, to know that my company offers the necessary support to working families and understand that family / work balance is important. I fully appreciate this as I’ve worked in too many companies in the past, where on paper this was suggested, but sadly it was not put into practice.”

We take the balance between personal and professional lives very seriously. We offer our employees flexible working arrangements through our family-friendly policies, including part-time working and job sharing. We are also committed to providing more opportunity for both men and women to take career breaks.
