Alison Cox joins Sir Robert McAlpine’s Executive Board

It gives us great pleasure to announce that Alison Cox has joined our Executive Board and assumed full accountability for the role of Executive Director Engineering and Technical Services with immediate effect.

Effective immediately, Alison Cox succeeds Boyd McFee on the Executive Board at Sir Robert McAlpine as Executive Director of Engineering and Technical Services.

A Chartered Civil Engineer and Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers, Alison started her career at Sir Robert McAlpine as a sponsored student completing her first summer placement on site at Holborn Bars in 1989. Through the course of an exemplary career, she has emerged as an exceptional professional, a driver of technical excellence and an inspiring leader.

Before her appointment to the Executive Board, Alison was Project Director on Battersea Power Station Phase 3A. Last year, she appeared alongside Sir Robert McAlpine’s Chairman, Edward McAlpine, at the Women in Construction Summit, where she gave a keynote address describing how she successfully fostered an inclusive culture at Battersea Power Station Phase 3A site, as a means of driving technical excellence across this vast and complex project.

Alison follows in the footsteps of Boyd McFee, who retires after an outstanding 40-year career at Sir Robert McAlpine. Joining the business as an apprentice in the late 1976, Boyd worked his way up to the Executive Board through various engineering role, asserting his influence across the business as a leader and a technical expert.

Paul Hamer, Chief Executive Officer, said:

“It gives me great pleasure to welcome Alison Cox on the Executive Board, the first woman to undertake the Director of Engineering and Technical Services role in the company’s 150-year history. Alison has demonstrated throughout her exemplary career that she has all the qualities and expertise required to truly help us make Sir Robert McAlpine the Best Builder. She is a worthy successor to Boyd McFee, whose phenomenal career at Sir Robert McAlpine leaves an inspiring legacy of achievements and success.”
