WLA's International Women's Day Conference

We are delighted to be sponsoring and speaking at the WLA's International Women's Day Conference

In line with our commitment to leading by example on diversity and inclusion, and inspiring industry wide change, Sir Robert McAlpine is proud to be the headline sponsor of this year’s WLA conference on 4th-5th March 2021.

Echoing the theme of this year’s International Women’s Day, ‘Choose to challenge’, our aim is to create a truly inclusive culture, where everyone can thrive, is respected and treated fairly, and feels empowered to challenge what needs to change.

Within our industry, we stand by the fact that there are no gender specific roles in construction. To help reflect this, we’re making great steps to increase the visibility of our female leaders and showcase the successful women already working on our sites.

Last year, for example, we launched our Beyond 1% podcast series which is about empowering women in construction, both on and off site.  Each episode is addressing stereotypes and confronting the realities of building a career in construction. Listen to our episodes here >>

At Sir Robert McAlpine we pride ourselves on being a family business where everyone is welcome. We value and celebrate the differences that make each of us unique – and we understand that diverse teams are richer, more creative and productive. We are committed to attracting more females to the construction industry but also represent the communities in which we have projects. This includes the ethnic minorities, people with different abilities, as well as LGBTQ+ communities. It is important to make sure we are truly reflecting the society we operate in. When all parties are represented in all the input that goes into planning and delivering a project, you can aim to build better buildings.

We believe that nurturing a diversity of talent will support us in our mission to be the best place to work as we proudly build Britain’s future heritage.
