Congratulations to our valiant cycling colleagues who completed their ‘Tour de Barcelona’ ride last week, raising over £20,000 for cancer charity, Maggie’s.
It was all for a wonderful cause, raising funds for our corporate charity partner, Maggie’s.
As they set out, they were presented with a crochet flower from the centre staff at Maggie’s Southampton which would travel with each cyclist in turn and handed over to the team at Kalida, Barcelona.
Over nine days, numerous punctures, countless litres of water and van loads of energy gels and bars later, our peloton were tested to their limits as they tackled route diversions caused by French forest fires and impromptu river crossings. As the end was in sight, our lycra clad heroes battled an epic 2000m climb over the Pyrenees with a downhill descent into sideways rain before they crossed the finish line in Barcelona on Saturday evening.
Collectively they’ve raised a phenomenal £20,000 for Maggie’s and all funds raised will mean that people with cancer receive support by expert staff, whether it's help for a friend, family member or carer, benefits advice, psychological support, or just a quiet place with a garden to enjoy.
Well done to all those involved!
*Kalida is an independent cancer centre that is part of the international Maggie's network and will receive a percentage of funds raised.
We’d also like to thank those who have supported with a donation, including our event sponsors, CAD21, Dowds, P+HS Architects, Ryder Architecture, Curtins and WT Partnership who have made a generous donation to support our fundraising efforts for Maggie’s.
If you are able to do so, please support our cyclists by donating to their pages below. Thank you.
Thank you once again to everyone at Sir Robert McAlpine for making a difference to so many people. Whether you were part of the cycling team, supported them along the route, or have donated to their fundraising pages, you are helping us to ensure people with cancer receive support by expert staff at our centres across the UK. Your support has never been more needed. We know people with cancer are harder hit by the cost of living crisis. They need to use more heating, they are living on reduced incomes and paying to travel for treatment. Our centres offer support on finances and returning to work, as well as support from our psychologists on the stress and anxiety caused by worrying about money.
