HS2 Colne Valley Viaduct wins design award
26 Nov 2024Colne Valley Viaduct named winner in the 'engineering' category of the Royal Fine Art Commission Trust’s Building Beauty Awards - 2024
The shortlist for the CIOB Construction Manager of the Year Awards 2020 has been revealed and includes not one, but two of our Sir Robert McAlpine colleagues.
The Construction Manager of the Year Awards (CMYA), run by the CIOB every year since 1978, celebrates extraordinary individuals who go above and beyond to deliver buildings that make a positive impact on the lives of the people who use them.
Lee Wayper is a finalist in the Higher education category for his outstanding work on Newcastle Universities Frederick Douglass Centre (FDC).
The FDC is a new build providing conference facilities, lecture theatres, offices for co-located staff and teaching rooms; it has been designed to complement and be compatible with the Urban Sciences Building and the Newcastle Helix master plan.
Kevin Alden has been commended for his contribution to refurbishment works on the Grade II listed Civic Centre in Newcastle and has made the shortlist in the category for Public and Infrastructure.
We originally built the centre some 50 years ago and have been involved with the Phase 2 renovation over the last 3 years. Kevin has led the project team who have delivered the remodelling works including 3 of the 6 blocks which have been integrated with the original building. Working to a tight schedule, he ensured the works were delivered on time, at cost, achieving all sustainability targets.
These awards are the most rigorously judged in the industry and a unique barometer for management talent in our sector. To reach the final is a major achievement and a sure sign that the very highest level of professionalism is on show.
