IWD with Victoria Inglis
14 Mar 2025A passionate advocate for a more climate-conscious future, Sustainability Apprentice, Victoria Inglis, is proud to be helping make a positive difference on two landmark London projects.
The construction of 1 Broadgate reached a new milestone this week with the installation of the first cladding panels.
In total, some 10,000 sq m of glazing is set to be installed across 13 storeys of the building over the next seven months, transforming the streetscape close to Liverpool Street Station.
The cladding is made up of a mix of unitised (UCW) and stick curtain walling.
The UCW consists of 2,625 panels, some of which weigh up to an impressive 1,220kg, the largest of the units being some 3m wide and 5.4m high.
There are two main types of unit, ‘vision’, which have annealed laminated glass external panes, and fin panels.
The extruded aluminium fins are powder coated in 19 different colours. The panels are set in blocks, running from darker reds and pinks at the lower levels up to cream and yellow towards the upper floors.
The development will provide an eye-catching complement to the neighbouring 100 Liverpool Street, also delivered for client British Land under the Broadgate Framework.

2,432 recycled aluminium panels in 19 colours now adorn this 14-storey sustainable landmark, delivering 500,000 sq ft of office and 46,000 sq ft of retail space.
Congratulations to our 1 Broadgate team, who won the prestigious ‘Delivering Sustainability with Digital Innovation’ accolade at this year’s Digital Construction Awards.
We refurbished a 1980s office building into a vibrant mixed used retail, leisure and flexible co-working space, whilst maintaining its Grade II listed façade.
We are working with British Land and GIC on Broadgate’s evolution into a world-class retail, leisure, and commercial destination, bringing people together to work, shop, drink and dine.
