2 Finsbury Avenue façade installation completes

All 5,792 unitised façade panels at 2 Finsbury Avenue have now been installed

The installation of all 5,792 unitised façade panels at 2 Finsbury Avenue (2FA) has now completed, just over a year after it started.

News 2 Finsbury Avenue Facade Completion 1This milestone marks the culmination of more than two and a half years of design development and collaboration between Sir Robert McAlpine, British Land, architects 3XN and Adamson Associates, and specialist façade contractor Focchi.

The striking sawtooth-shaped building envelope is one of the defining features of the development and establishes 2FA as a landmark addition to London's skyline.

Notable for its interlocking triangular forms and combination of solid and glazed elevations, the façade has been designed to balance architectural ambition with environmental performance. The completed envelope incorporates lower-carbon aluminium, high-performance glazing and a passive ventilation strategy that supports energy efficiency.

Manufactured as unitised panels, the façade elements were delivered to site ready for installation, providing a high degree of quality control and precision, with the programme requiring careful co-ordination in one of London's busiest commercial districts.

A key factor in enabling the installation was an innovative tower crane solution developed to operate from the East Tower core. The cantilevered arrangement was designed so that the crane structure aligned with glazing midpoints, allowing façade works to continue without interruption and demonstrating the engineering ingenuity required to deliver large-scale construction projects in highly constrained urban environments.

It is also another significant step towards the delivery of a highly sustainable, next-generation workplace. Targeting BREEAM Outstanding, WELL Platinum, EPC A and NABERS 5-Star ratings, 2FA will provide 750,000 sq ft of mixed-use space and set a new benchmark for sustainable commercial development in central London.
