Three Chamberlain Square marks façade milestone

The construction of Three Chamberlain Square, Birmingham has reached a key project milestone.

Congratulations to our Three Chamberlain Square project team, who have achieved a key milestone with the installation of the building's first terracotta façade units.

More than 8,000 bespoke façade panels are being installed on 3,000 windows across Three Chamberlain Square, starting with the building’s Paradise Street elevations.

The panels give the building its unique and appealing terracotta finish as well as its characteristic ogee arches. The terracotta is manufactured by a traditional supplier in Tuscany and the amount used in the building totals more than a kilometre in length.

The building has now reached level eight of its 10 floors, and will top out later this year.

Scheduled to open in 2025, Three Chamberlain Square forms an integral part of the overall Paradise masterplan which is bringing up to 2 million sq ft of commercial space, including 370 residential units and 120,000 sq ft of leisure space, to the city.

At 189,000 sq ft, Three Chamberlain Square also helps ensure a continued supply of Grade A office space for the city with an emphasis on sustainability and low energy and low carbon design as part of the global drive to net zero.

The façade has excellent thermal insulation properties which will improve the energy efficiency of the building. The façade also is a great example of circular design as its fully demountable, meaning its component parts can be refurbished and recycled in the future, rather than demolished.

The terracotta is also unglazed which has reduced the embodied carbon associated with the material, and once installed requires little maintenance, providing whole life carbon reductions.

Thanks to all those involved. We look forward to sharing more progress of this 10-storey, low energy, low carbon design for MEPC, which stands next to our recent project, One Centenary Way.

Terracotta façade brings colour to Paradise

Three Chamberlain Square’s is one of the most
sustainable buildings we brought forward
in the Midlands and in Birmingham uh
it's
189,000 ft commercial office development
we've achieved a BREEM outstanding
rating at the design stage and a first
for Birmingham as well is a neighbours
five-star rating which is a measure of
Energy Efficiency in offices we've also
focused on embodied carbon so lots of
attention to detail in terms of reducing
that up front embodied carbon to a
really class leading level so we're
using terracotta on this building it's
the first time we've used terra cotta on
the paradise development and it's part
of the architect's original vision for
this building which they W in a design
competition back in 2020 terra cotta
also has a a long history of use in
Birmingham and particularly on this site
three Chamberlin Square will complete
the second phase of the paradise master
plan so bringing another much needed use
of grade A office space to the city and
also the public Realm around the
building so where we're standing now on
rackliff passage will be transformed
into a highquality streetcape connecting
to Chavin square and then we've got
other new squares associated with the
hotel as well uh towards the west side
of the
[Music]
site I three train million square is a
really good example of the tremendous
transformation that's taking place in
this city we've seen record levels of
investment coming into Birmingham and
that's about new jobs New Opportunities
uh for businesses uh here in Birmingham
so it's how we are changing this city
for the better so everyone can live work
and thrive in this great city of ours so
this building does complete the southern
part of the master plan adjac to the
town hall so with some fantastic quality
realm again fantastic different
materials to some of the other buildings
and will really help attract new Blue
Chip occupiers to the city um as part of
the wider Paradise destination with the
public realm and the squares that we've
got um and to sit alongside the
Fantastic occupiers that we've already
[Music]
attracted
