Welcoming the response to the National Data Strategy consultation

Sir Robert McAlpine’s Strategy Director, Grant Findlay, reacts to the government’s response to the consultation on the National Data Strategy.

Earlier this year, Sir Robert McAlpine contributed to the consultation on the National Data Strategy.

Yesterday, the Government published its response and  announced the creation of the National Data Forum, which is designed to:

  • Help deliver the UK’s National Data Strategy and make sure the country harnesses the potential of data.
  • Guide levelling up opportunities and prosperity in UK regions through driving innovation and growth with data.
  • Provide new guidance on data sharing for firms to help them capitalise on opportunities.

Grant Findlay, Director of Strategy, who previously wrote about why greater data access can underpin economic recovery, commented:

“Sir Robert McAlpine welcomes the publication of the government’s response to the National Data Strategy consultation and the creation of the National Data Strategy Forum. Data has an important role to play in the future of construction and we recognise its value in driving up productivity and the economic viability of our projects.

"We are proud members of the Project Data Analytics Taskforce, which provides a UK based forum for instigating, co-ordinating and inspiring work on project data analytics. We are also spearheading the future of data in construction by working closely with Projecting Success and the Open Data Institute as part of the Construction Data Trust, which aims to use data analysis techniques to drive improved data quality, unlock cost effective innovation and create one cross-industry response to common challenges.

"As the UK begins the journey towards economic recovery post-COVID, we look forward to working with Government and its newly formed National Data Strategy Forum to unlock the full potential of data in construction.”
