Last year, Aditya Mandapati intervened to administer CPR after witnessing a cardiac arrest while waiting for a bus and saved a man's life.
Last year, Aditya Mandapati, who was undertaking a Land Management Placement on our Align JV project for HS2 at the time, was waiting at a bus stop in Hammersmith when he became aware of a man who appeared to be suffering a heart attack
Aditya responded immediately, calling emergency services and administering CPR until two Met Police constables arrived to take over, followed by paramedics shortly after.
The paramedics said that Aditya’s quick thinking and immediate intervention had saved the man’s life.
Last week, he was invited to receive a Basic Command Unit (BCU) Commander’s Commendation from Acting BCU Commander Alan Duncan (pictured). Aditya also received a Resuscitation Certificate from the Royal Humane Society.
Aditya said: “Receiving this commendation from the Metropolitan Police Service is a real honour, but more than anything, I’m just grateful the man survived. It was a critical moment that reinforced how important it is to stay calm, act quickly, and step up when it truly matters.”
Cardiac arrests can happen to anyone and CPR takes just 15 minutes to learn. More information on what to do can be found on the British Heart Foundation website.
