Supporting our supply chain’s digital capability

In an increasingly technology and data driven sector, we are working to make sure that our supply chain has the digital capability to deliver what we and our clients need.

Over the past two years our procurement and digital construction teams have been working together to improve how we assess our subcontractors' digital competence.

Work began in 2019 with face-to-face workshops involving our top 250 Tier 1 where we shared our expectations around digital and BIM and introduced them to our supply chain digital capability assessment portal.

Subcontractors submit their credentials to the portal and complete a survey, scores from which are then measured against a set of benchmark criteria.

Moving forward we will be driving more value from the portal by using it to support project teams when they are reviewing information about potential subcontractors and to evaluate actual project performance in terms of digital capability.

The portal enables us to demonstrate to clients how we ensure the subcontractors working on their projects have the capability to deliver on their requirements, and how we use gap analysis of the data supplied to support their development.

We’ll be adding more training support and material and providing links to industry initiatives funded by the CITB to help our subcontractors further their digital understanding, awareness, and capability.
