Recipients of Armed Forces Community Fund announced
04 Dec 2025Our grants, each worth up to £5,000, will support initiatives which help individuals and groups connected to the Armed Forces community
With help from our 2021 and 2022 Strong Foundations Grants, the Knutsford Scout Hut has now officially opened
The Scout group has been running for 111 years and is the original Scout group in Knutsford. The new building is called ‘Charlton Lodge’, dedicated to Jim Charlton who’s been part of the scout group over 50 years.
To unveil the new building, a traditional Flag Break ceremony took place, dedicating the new flag to the building. A plaque was unveiled at the ceremony, which saw attendance from Craig Brown, the Deputy Leader of Cheshire East Council, Chair of Highways & Transport Committee.
This building is a meaningful addition with a lasting benefit for the local community. Thank you to all organisations, including Sir Robert McAlpine, for your generous donations.
Martin Relton 1st Knutsford Scouts
The 1st Knutsford Scout Group began fundraising in 2015 to build their new hall. They received planning permission in 2016, demolished their old building in 2018 and had just received new structural panels when Covid hit in 2020, halting everything. They applied for our 2021 and 2022 Strong Foundations Grants, to cover specific costs related to completing the project, both of which were successful and played a key role in the completion of the building. Martin Relton (third right in picture) of the 1st Knutsford Scouts attended the A533 Topping Out Ceremony recently, where he accepted the 2022 Strong Foundations cheque on behalf of the group.
The new building now plays a key role in the community, not only hosting the 1st Knutsford Scout Group, but a variety of local community groups that use the facilities for baby groups, yoga, fitness, and choir practice.
