The team at 21 Moorfields welcomed our youngest site visitor recently with a quick tour and explanation about what goes on behind the hoardings.
Earlier this year, the 21 Moorfields team received a wonderful surprise from 6-year-old Arlo and his Grandma. Arlo enjoys visiting his Grandma Liz, who lives in the Barbican, a residential block directly opposite 21 Moorfields, and is fascinated by the works happening on our site. Together, they created a picture book capturing the plant and vehicles coming and going, and then sent it to the project team.
After reading the book and hearing about how much Arlo loved construction, the 21 Moorfields team were determined to organise a site visit for him. Given the COVID restrictions, this has taken some time to organise, but very happily, this site visit was able to go ahead last week. Arlo brought along his friend, Finn, as well as their mums and, of course, Grandma Liz.
Arlo and his family were treated to a VIP tour of the 21 Moorfields site, travelling up the hoist to the top of the building. Once there, Arlo and Finn were given the opportunity to direct the tower crane themselves using the radio. Visiting other floors in the building, the site visitors learned more about the unique structure of the building and the use of steelwork and concrete in its construction.
As well as a full site tour, Arlo and family received a bag of goodies, including some of our branded merchandise, a bag of LEGO, and personalised hi-vis jackets and hard hats for Finn and Arlo. The site team also arranged to have Arlo’s story book professionally printed, which Arlo proudly signed for Lee Walker, Sir Robert McAlpine’s Works Manager.
