Highways Inspector Andy Walker has played a central role in delivering our A19 team's ‘Building Bridges, Constructing Futures' activity to students in the local area
The event honours individuals and companies who have gone above and beyond in promoting STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) in the North.
Andy has played a central role in delivering the team's ‘Building Bridges, Constructing Futures' activity to students in the local area.
Students construct a 20m long cable stayed bridge during which they are introduced to basic engineering principles, are encouraged to communicate effectively within their teams and learn the true value of team working.
Andy has made it his personal mission to get more schools on board and inspire more students than ever, delivering the session to nearly 900 pupils in his own time, with many more lined up over the next 12 months.
Andy has received multiple plaudits from teachers for delivering such engaging sessions, and has also adapted the activity to ensure students with special educational needs are not excluded.
What's more, by training and mentoring others in the project team and across the supply chain, he is ensuring there is a greater pool of people to deliver on the ever-growing demand from local schools.
