AmeySRM wins global sustainability honour for A533 Scheme

AmeySRM, a joint venture between Amey and Sir Robert McAlpine, has been awarded a Green World Award 2025, recognising its outstanding commitment to environmental best practice and sustainable infrastructure delivery.

The accolade celebrates the collective success of the National Highway’s A533 Bridge Replacement Scheme, which demonstrated a carbon reduction of 1,029 tonnes CO₂e, with further unmeasured savings achieved through sustainable design and delivery.

AmeySRM competed against more than 500 international nominations and was awarded ‘Gold’ at the ceremony held in Auckland, New Zealand, following its Gold win at the International Green Apple Awards in London last year. The team picked up the Green World Award at St Paul’s Cathedral in London.

The business’s winning submission will be published in The Green Book, the leading international guide to environmental best practice, sharing AmeySRM’s innovation in carbon-conscious infrastructure with the global community.

National Highways’ Project Manager Sam Whitfield said: “To receive international recognition through this prestigious award is an incredible achievement and testament to the dedication, innovation and commitment to excellence of everyone involved in delivering the award-winning A533 Expressway Bridge Replacement scheme.

“The project successfully achieved a reduction of over 1,000 tonnes in carbon, with a lifecycle carbon assessment tool employed to calculate, track and reduce carbon emissions through design to completion, setting the standard for future infrastructure initiatives.

“It reflects our unwavering commitment to work with partners to reduce carbon across our construction and maintenance activities, while upholding the highest safety standards to improve our network.”

Strategic Highways Business Director at Amey, Stephen Knott said: “This award is not just recognition of a project, it’s recognition of a mindset. The A533 scheme shows what’s possible when sustainability sits at the core of infrastructure delivery. Winning Gold on an international stage reinforces our ESG commitment and the role our teams play in building net zero solutions that positively impact communities.”

The Green World Awards are run by The Green Organisation, an independent, non-profit environmental body supported by the Environment Agency, the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health, and other sector leaders.
