A new research facility constructed by the company at the University of St Andrews is the first building in Scotland and the first laboratory in the UK to be rated BREEAM Outstanding.
The Biomedical Sciences Research Complex (BSRC) Annexe achieved a score of 87.66% under BREEAM, the most widely used environmental assessment method and rating system for buildings.
Constructed within a live campus environment, the highly serviced four-storey building provides facilities for researchers working at the leading edge of biomedical and biological sciences.
Professor James Naismith, Director of BSRC, said:
“The fact that the money saved on construction and on the reduced running costs would go directly to fighting human disease was a powerful motivator for us all.... This award recognises the scientists, the university professionals, the design team and the construction company Sir Robert McAlpine who worked together to make the vision a reality.”
