WL Gore project wins top BCO award

The refurbishment and extension of WL Gore’s offices in Livingston won the Refurbished/Recycled Workplace category and was named Best of the Best at last night’s British Council for Offices (BCO) Awards.

The project, which involved the provision of new offices, laboratory areas and welfare facilities, was completed by the company last year.

Hailing the building’s transformation as “nothing short of miraculous”, the judges said: “The magnificent refurbishment of this global technological manufacturer’s home of more than 30 years has taken a building that was no longer fit for purpose and regenerated it into a modern, green and inspirational workplace.”

The judges continued: “WL Gore set its team three key objectives: to improve the energy performance of the building; to create a welcoming and enjoyable experience for visitors and staff and to develop an open, flexible workspace that would foster openness and collaboration. The team has excelled in its successful delivery of these three objectives.

“WL Gore selected the optimum solution and chose the best team members that have delivered the quality that was required on programme.”

The BCO’s awards programme aims to provide public recognition for top quality design and functionality and a benchmark for excellence in workplaces.
