National Apprenticeship Week 2020: Introducing Emma Hawkins

Do you want to know what it’s really like as a Sir Robert McAlpine apprentice? It's National Apprenticeship Week and here we meet Emma Hawkins who highlights her career to date, the qualification she is working towards and what her role as trainee design manager involves.

As an apprentice design manager, Emma is studying towards a BSc in Construction Management with the bonus of gaining hands on experience working on live projects.

Her role sees her supporting project design managers, coordinating the various sets of designs from pre-construction through to delivery and construction phases.

Here Emma highlights more about what her typical day looks like and the experience gained so far having been with the business for just a year.

National Apprenticeship Week 2020: Star bakers

Kicking off National Apprenticeship Week in true style earlier this week, Emma was joined by colleague Will Allen, trainee quantity surveyor and other team mates to compete in an apprentice style bake off at The Sage in Gateshead.

We had two apprentice teams compete for the official trophy and are thrilled to announce Emma and Will’s team won the very first Apprentice Bake off trophy! Their impressive red velvet cake represents how apprenticeships are the building block for many careers.
